Details, details....

I should mention some details about the room. The wall colors are Benjamin Moore Sweet Caroline (Green) and the pink is also BM, Pink Ruffle. My DH and I did the paint, and the flooring, and he did the chair rail and the moulding over the crib. We did the closet organizer, too. It's by Rubbermaid, from Lowe's and it is the best closet organizer I have ever used! It cost about $115, but was well worth the effort.
The crib is by Simmons and it is the Valencia model in Cherry. The rest of the furniture is going to be delivered after she comes home. We have a highboy dresser and a long dresser with an optional bookshelf that we will likely add in the future.
I found the little side table at a local thrift shop for $20! I painted it in about 30 minutes with leftover paint from the room and added the purple crystal knobs from Lowe's! Mike bought me the most scrumptious rocker in the world from Babies are Us for my birthday. It's an off-white thick fluffy chenille dream! I still need to add a lot more, but I want to wait until she's home to do the rest of the big stuff. I got the crib bedding set at Target and I actually love it way more than the $400 one I was checking out a few weeks ago. I have a pattern and some fabric and I plan on making some accessories, such as an organizer for along the crib and a diaper stacker. The pillows are not yet finished in these pics...I just wrapped some fabric I loved around the pillow forms and I hope to sew 'em up soon!

Wow, It's been a MONTH since I updated!

So much has happened in these past few weeks and I have spent no time on line at all. We have been scrambling to get the room done, get baby necessities, figure out the cash component of this venture....and we traveled to Arkansas to meet "B" , our birthmom! In between all that, I had a major back injury that took me off my feet the day before we traveled and I have had a few other health issues come up lately that I need to deal with. Hopefully, not all that serious, but my doctor did find a small mass on my thyroid that needs to be looked at soon, and I simply do not have enough hours in my day to get this all done! My job right now is really inconvenient! And since no one at work even knows we are adopting, I can't even go for the "sympathy factor" and slide by these next few weeks! LOL!
So, let me try to summarize these past few weeks....first, the dental issues have not been resolved really to our satisfaction. "B" mentioned to me, when we were visiting, that her front tooth was bothering her, but she never made it out to be something that was an emergency, so we let it go. Our attorney told me that the judge would most likely not approve of money for dental work unless she had an infection that could threaten the pregnancy, and we agreed that if that were the case, than, yes, we would provide help. We never were contacted about that again, so we figured it "went away". Only to hear from my Attorney's assistant last week that "B" has been calling her attorney saying she is in dire need to get this fixed. I truly do not like her attorney and I do not even believe this is being brought on by our birthmom. We spent 3 days with her and she never mentioned anything about needing help to go to the dentist! I don't know who to believe anymore!
So, I jumped ahead and mentioned that we spent time with our birthmom! We flew to Arkansas 2 weeks ago ( my , how time REALLY does fly by!) and we had the most amazing time! The city in which she lives is a resort town with tons of great places to stay and to eat and do fun things! We so lucked out there! I am a bit of a "spoiled" North Jersey girl and I will admit, and I was very nervous about traveling to an area of the country where I perceived to be backwards....boy was I wrong!
We were living in the lap of luxury at our hotel, had a very nice rental car( which was upgraded at the airport by a sweet man who is also struggling to have a family ) and had an amazing experience all around!
When we met "B" for the first time, it was incredible. We pulled into the parking lot where we were to meet her and I spotted a woman, very slim and petite from the back walking inside the mall. I pointed her out to my DH and said, "I think that's her". He did not think that was her because she didn't appear to be pregnant from behind ( lucky girl!)
but I noticed by the way she was walking that she most definitely WAS pregnant...a woman always can tell these things. It's a gift! SO when she turned around to look out the door for us, we spotted each other ...and immediately burst into tears...we must have cried for 15 minutes, and there amongst the tissues and the runny mascara stood my DH, just taking it all in! He gets the Great Husband award and a permanent front row seat at all future "Lifetime" movies!
We ate at a great Mexican restaurant and hung out there so long they had to throw us out at closing time! We were so tired from traveling and were very happy to get back to our hotel and sleep! I had been having severe back pain 24 hours prior to flying and was so Thankful to God that my pain subsided enough to travel and not appear to be crippled and incapable of taking care of this child!
The next day was, incredibly, my birthday, and I got to go to the Dr's appointment with "B" and I heard the baby's heartbeat for the first time! What an amazing gift! That will be impossible to top in the future! After the doctor's, we went to "B's apartment, which by all standards was pretty nice and spent the rest of the day there just drinking sweet tea, hanging out with her and getting to know each other better. We all truly like each other and I fully expect that we will remain in close contact after the baby is born. I think she initially wanted contact only through the lawyers but we all, at this point, feel that some contact between us will help "B" make peace with her decision. She was a little emotional during our visit, and it broke my heart...but I think that if she was not emotional at all, something would be wrong.
On our last day, we met her grandmother and grandfather! What an amazing bunch of people they are. They are emotionally so supportive of "B" and are really the driving force behind this process. I am so happy to have met them and gave them a chance to feel at ease with us! We all got along so well, grandpa even wants to take my DH fishing when we come back for the birth! We spent so much time visiting with them, we nearly missed our plane! I'll post about that later!! It's pretty funny:)
